This autumn, older adults in the region will have a unique chance to dive into the performing arts as the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre hosts a 10‑week creative workshop designed specifically for individuals 55 and older.
The upcoming program provides a welcoming space for participants to discover and develop their talents across storytelling, acting, music, and movement.
Meeting weekly, participants in the “I’m Not Done Yet!” Creative Arts Workshop will sharpen their artistic skills through practical exercises in theatre, song, and narrative expression. Guidance throughout the series will be provided by guest instructors along with Joan Chandler, who specializes in acting and improvisation, and David Sereda, who handles singing and songwriting, both representing the award‑winning, local community arts organization Sheatre.
“This workshop is about exploring creativity in a fun, welcoming space while connecting with others in the community,” said Museum director Cathy McGirr.
Over the 10 weeks, those enrolled will work together to write and rehearse original music and dramatic scenes, culminating in a final showcase.
"These workshops are open to anyone over the age of 55 who wants to try something creative,” said Sheatre’s David Sereda. “Perhaps you’ve always wanted to sing or try acting — we believe you are never too old to try something new and have fun doing it! Why should kids have all the fun?”
Attendance is completely free of charge and includes a complimentary light lunch during every session. Because capacity is restricted, early pre-registration is strongly recommended for anyone interested in taking part.
The culmination of the workshop will take place on November 24, 2026, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., when the group presents their work to the public in the Bruce Power Theatre. The showcase is free and open to everyone in the community, with light refreshments provided and advance registration requested for audience members.
