Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation (ABCF) has become only the fourth organization to receive a Decade Award from the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority.
The foundation, a registered charitable organization, is being honoured for contributions to the watershed community in the 1970s and beyond.
"What we have accomplished has been achieved thanks to the dedication of hard-working volunteers and the generosity of the people in this watershed community who donate and who support our work and our fundraising events," ABCF Chair Charles Miner said while accepting the award.
Since it was established in 1974, the foundation has worked to protect water quality, soil health, and enhance the habitat of all living things in the watershed. It has its own Board of Directors, but works together with the conservation authority and the community to raise funds, foster partnerships and acquire conservation lands.
The conservation authority is giving out Decade Awards this year in honour of its 80th anniversary. Member municipalities, Ontario parks, and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources previously received the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s Decade Award for their efforts.
