Bruce County has purchased the former home of the Huron Shores Gymnastics Club, in a move it says "will provide flexibility to support a range of future uses."
The building is located next to the County’s Lakeshore Hub and Paramedic Services Headquarters in Port Elgin. Bruce County is buying the property for the price of $1.35 million plus applicable taxes and fees.
According to the county, the current building is 6,000 square feet.
"When this property became available, it presented an opportunity to enable future enhancements to the County’s existing facilities," said Warden Luke Charbonneau in a release. "This acquisition ensures we have the space and flexibility to support growth while continuing to explore opportunities that benefit the community and strengthen services for residents."
The Huron Shores Gymnastics and Trampoline Club, which operated there for around 28 years, announced it would be sold in April. The final day of operation was June 20.
Former owner John Craig said in an email that the County did not share its intentions for the building after the sale is completed.
"I’ve greatly enjoyed my many years of coaching and running the Gymnastics club in Saugeen Shores," said Craig, owner and head coach. "I’m grateful for the support from the community and proud of the experiences we’ve created together. As I move into my next chapter, I’m confident this property will continue to serve the community in new and meaningful ways."
The County's purchase will be funded from its non-departmental facilities reserve, which currently has an approximate balance of $4.65 million. Once the sale is closed Bruce County will assume responsibility for the property, with associated costs being managed within the existing 2026 budget.
The County after that point, it will begin assessment of potential uses as part of its broader facilities and service planning.
