The forecast calls for some fog in South Huron next month, as the Municipality begins inspecting sanitary sewers.
Contractor Flowmetrix will begin fog testing the sewers in the area starting during the week of September 8. Testing should be fully completed by October 30.
The Municipality says fog testing is a safe, quick way to find sewer system areas with improper connections. The fog used in the test is non-toxic, non-staining and odourless; harmless to humans, pets, plants, food, and material goods; and does not create a fire hazard.
Along with Flometrix personnel conducting assessments around town, residents may also notice an aerial drone used to assist with the inspection.
The Municipality says the drone will be used solely for the purpose of observing roof plumbing vents and other elevated areas, to confirm that fog is venting properly. All drone operations will be conducted in accordance with applicable safety regulations and Transport Canada requirements.
For their part, homeowners are asked to pour water into basement floor drains and any unused sinks or plumbing fixtures a few days before the fog testing starts. If they do notice fog has entered the home, they can contact Mike Wentrot, Flowmetrix Project Manager, at 705-503-9528.
