The Hanover Police Service has arrested and charged one man after an incident involving another man being threatened at knifepoint.
According to police, in the early morning of June 2, officers responded to a report of a man being threatened near the intersection of 10th Avenue and 9th Street in Hanover.
The investigation determined that the two men didn't know each other, but an altercation occurred when one accused the other of stealing a power tool. The other man turned and threatened the other man with a knife before turning and running off.
Officers were able to identify the knife-wielding suspect. An off-duty officer alerted colleagues after spotting the man near 12th Street and 9th Avenue on June 9. A suspect was eventually arrested without incident. Police recovered a knife, other weapons, a stolen Chilean passport, credit cards, and other items that were believed to have been stolen from vehicle entries in Hanover.
A 36-year-old of no fixed address faces a total of 15 criminal charges including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of identity documents, possession of stolen credit cards, possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.
He was held for a bail hearing and later remanded into custody.
