The recent Huron County OPP Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run raised a significant amount to help local Special Olympians.
This year, the torch made its way across Huron County on June 3, alongside Special Olympians and their family members, friends, and community supporters from all over Huron County to raise awareness and raise funds for Special Olympics.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Huron County OPP Sgt. Russell Nesbitt, who has worked with the torch run and Special Olympics for over 29 years, shared the great news that this year's run raised over $5,000.
The Huron County Torch Run started at the Maitland River Community Church located on Josephine Street. The run headed through Wingham, ending at the south end of town. Participants were then transported to Blyth, Clinton, and Goderich, where after the final leg, participants and supporters met for a celebration BBQ.
