Residents in some parts of midwestern and southern Ontario are being told to limit their time outside.
Environment Canada issued a yellow-level air quality warning on Friday for southern Huron and Lambton counties, warning that sunny and hot conditions are expected to cause high levels of air pollution in the afternoon.
The deteriorating air can commonly lead to eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. In less common cases, the air pollution can cause wheezing, chest pains, or a severe cough. People most likely to be affected include seniors, pregnant women, small children, those with chronic illness, and outdoor workers.
Environment Canada recommends reducing or rescheduling outdoor activities and closing doors and windows as much as possible until air quality conditions improve.
