Grey County has selected a contractor to build a new transportation services depot in the community of Ceylon.
Council approved the contract at the March 12 committee of the whole meeting, awarding the project to DOMM Construction Ltd. for $7,508,000.
The planned facility will serve Patrol “D,” which covers the southeastern portion of the county. Currently, Transportation Services staff working in that patrol area operate from a leased building in Flesherton.
Once completed, the new site will feature a primary operations depot along with a separate building dedicated to winter materials storage. County officials say the expanded space will provide the long-term capacity needed to support road maintenance and snow-clearing operations throughout the region.
“Investing in our operations infrastructure means our crews have the facilities they need to keep Grey County roads safe and well-maintained for residents,” said Grey County Director of Transportation Pat Hoy. “This new depot will give Patrol D a permanent home and the space to serve our community for years to come.”
In addition to operational space, the building design includes a lunchroom and meeting area for staff. The facility will also function as a secondary backup Emergency Operations Centre, strengthening Grey County’s ability to respond during emergencies.
Five submissions were received after the county issued a request for proposals on January 16, 2026, following an earlier pre-qualification stage.
The project is being planned with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind, consistent with the goals outlined in the Grey County Climate Change Action Plan. Construction is expected to begin in the spring, with the depot scheduled to be ready ahead of the 2027 winter season.
