Another snowmobile crash has police pleading for safety

Another snowmobile crash in Midwestern Ontario that sent a Listowel man to hospital has police once again asking the public to be safe when operating sleds.

The Wellington County OPP responded alongside local paramedics and fire crews to a report of a single snowmobile collision with a hay trailer on a trail off of Sideroad 17 within Mapleton Township on February 24 at 9:30 p.m.

A 29-year-old from Listowel was taken to hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries.

Police say they are taking the opportunity to once again remind everyone of the need to operate snowmobiles and other recreational vehicles safely.

Excessive speed, loss of control, alcohol impairment and inattentive riding are the leading contributing factors to fatal snowmobile collisions in Ontario, according to the OPP.

This follows a number of fatal snowmobile crashes over the last few months in the region, including a pair of fatal crashes near Milverton and Chesley.
