Bus driver charged twice for driving on Hwy 21 while it was closed

A bus driver was charged two separate times for driving on Highway 21 while it was closed.

According to South Bruce OPP, on December 29 at 10:30 p.m., an officer stopped a coach bus that was driving and had become stuck on Highway 21 near Kincardine.

The highway had been closed for several hours at that point, and the 45-year-old bus driver from Walkerton was charged with drive on closed highway.

Then, the following morning on December 30 at 7:30 a.m., a concerned passenger on the bus called police to advise that the driver began trying to drive on the still closed highway again.

Police located the bus in Tiverton and charged the same driver again with drive on closed highway.

The OPP are reminding everyone that driving on closed highways is a serious safety risk not only for drivers and passengers, but for first responders who potentially have to respond to rescue stuck vehicles or to crashes.
