Home-cooked for the Holidays helping out for fourth year

A Huron County family is looking to serve those less fortunate in the community with a Christmas feast.

The Cronin family is once again offering its "Home-cooked for the Holidays" meal to individuals and families looking for a hand this season.

Emmy Cronin said the tradition started during COVID-19.

"This will be our fourth year, we started in 2021," she said. "During lockdown, we found a lot of people were struggling and couldn't get out much, so we decided it would be nice to cook a homecooked meal and deliver it to them."

While it was initially just Emmy and her mother Amy running it, they've brought on more volunteers this year, as 57 people have already signed up.

The 20-year-old Cronin has taken the lead organizing it, and says there's still room for more to sign up.

"We're always open to new people. Our date this year is December 22, so we'd love to get names in as soon as possible," she said. "In previous years, we've had people sign others up. Usually we get all the names together, I'll call and make sure they're home and ready to receive a meal and we'll go from there."

In the first year, they fed 10 people. Initially the effort was funded by the family, but as it's grown, Emmy says they've also had some community sponsors get on board.

"This year, we had some local businesses help support, so we have turkey's coming from Wallenstein and we have turnips coming from a local business in Blyth, so things like this have really helped us become what we are today," she shared.

The dinners will be delivered on December 22, and those interested can still sign up themselves or others up by emailing Emmy at ercronin@icloud.com.
