South Huron man wins $1 million

Saying “yes” to ENCORE paid off for Hubertus Broeders of Dashwood. He matched all seven ENCORE numbers in exact order in the October 25, 2025 LOTTO 6/49 draw to win $1 million.

Hubertus, a retired construction supervisor, said he’s been playing the lottery with OLG for over 40 years, and this is his first major win. He was in disbelief when he checked his ticket at the store and discovered his windfall. “I thought it was a prank — it was unreal! I was very shaken up,” he recalled.

“I shared the news with my son and daughter-in-law, and they couldn’t believe it either. We were all so emotional,” the 80-year-old said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his winnings. “This is a dream come true!”

Hubertus looks forward to some well deserved travel and plans to donate a portion of his prize to a food bank.

“I love to fish, and I want to take a fishing trip to Florida. I’d also like to visit New England, and I’ve always wanted to experience the Calgary Stampede, which I plan to do next year,” he concluded.

The winning ticket was purchased at Crediton Variety and Gas on Victoria Avenue East in Crediton.
