New Emery Bridge opens in Georgian Bluffs

Work to replace a 75-year-old bridge in Georgian Bluffs has been completed with the new $2.2 million structure now open to vehicular traffic.

The township officially reopened the Emery Bridge on Church Sideroad West on Wednesday. The bridge spans 11.3 metres across Indian Creek.

The new single-lane structure eliminates the previous load restrictions, improves road safety, and restores direct access to properties. The township noted it also reduces the need for large agricultural equipment to detour along Grey Road 1.

Work to replace the old Emery Bridge began in the summer. Prior to that, the 1950s-era bridge had been closed since 2023 when significant structural issues, including deck and abutment failure, were identified.

Funds for the new bridge came from the township's capital budget and reserves.

In reopening the new structure, township officials offered their thanks to residents for their patience throughout the closure and construction period.
