Final planning begins for Kincardine Hospital redevelopment

The Kincardine hospital redevelopment project will move into the next stage of the capital planning process.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) approval is a significant milestone, as the final stage of detailed planning will now go ahead, followed by approval to proceed to construction. This stage of planning includes developing working drawings that are suitable for public tendering.

The plan includes a new Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging, and Laboratory space almost three times larger than the current space. It will be big enough to house an MRI suite, while meeting current and future needs. The Laboratory, Decontamination room, Lobby, and Back of House (loading/unloading) areas will also be modernized.

“This approval marks an important milestone for the Kincardine Hospital Redevelopment Project, for our organization, and for the communities we serve,” said Nancy Shaw, SBGHC President and CEO. “It brings us one step closer to expanding and modernizing the Kincardine hospital, ensuring our patients continue to receive exceptional care in modern, accessible, and innovative facilities.”

The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation has been working closely with SBGHC on a fundraising campaign to cover the $18M local share of the cost. Since the Building Health Care for Generations capital fundraising campaign launched in 2017, the effort has raised nearly $12M.

“This is an exciting time for the citizens of Kincardine and surrounding areas,” said Becky Fair, President of the Kincardine & Community Health Care Foundation. “We look forward to the construction of an improved health care facility, and a system that will serve our community for generations.”
