With deer hunting season set to open across much of Midwestern Ontario, residents and visitors are being reminded to take extra precautions in rural areas, trails, and forests over the coming weeks.
Long gun season for deer runs from Monday, November 3 to Sunday, November 9, 2025. During that time, both hunters and trail users are urged to stay alert and visible to ensure a safe experience for everyone enjoying the outdoors.
Trail users are encouraged to wear high-visibility or hunter-orange clothing, keep pets leashed and marked with bright gear, and avoid using trails during dawn or dusk, when visibility is limited. Authorities also remind residents to steer clear of beige, brown, white, or green clothing that can blend into the surroundings.
Hunters are being reminded to stay clear of busy trails, ensure they have a clear line of sight, and always identify their target and what lies beyond it before firing. County forests and conservation areas may have specific bylaws or hunting restrictions, so hunters should review local regulations before heading out.
Each county in the region offers public trail systems, conservation areas, and county forests where both hunters and recreational users may cross paths. Outdoor safety officials are asking everyone to show extra caution and respect during the week-long hunting period.
Information about local hunting rules and safety guidelines can be found through the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry or on county websites.
