The City of Owen Sound is reminding residents that the final Household Hazardous Waste Day of 2025 takes place this Saturday, October 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Owen Sound Public Works Facility, located at 1900 20th Street East.
The popular program gives residents from Owen Sound and surrounding partner municipalities a safe and environmentally responsible way to dispose of hazardous materials that should not go into household garbage. Participating communities include the City of Owen Sound, Township of Chatsworth, Township of Georgian Bluffs, Municipality of Grey Highlands, and Municipality of Meaford.
To help keep the line moving efficiently, residents are asked to bring a valid ID showing their home address in one of the participating municipalities and to have a completed Household Hazardous Waste Form. The form can be downloaded and printed from the City’s website at OwenSound.ca/WasteForm.
A full list of accepted materials is available online at OwenSound.ca/Waste. Items that will not be accepted include infectious or radioactive waste, explosives such as ammunition or flares, unidentified or unlabeled waste, and improperly contained materials such as leaking containers or missing lids. Residents are reminded to transfer compromised materials into a clean, clearly labeled container before bringing them to the site.
Hazardous waste from commercial, industrial, or farm operations cannot be accepted at this event.
Dates for the 2026 Household Hazardous Waste events will be announced in the coming months. For those needing to dispose of items outside of scheduled events, the Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority’s (RPRA) “Where to Recycle” map offers a province-wide tool to find free drop-off locations for batteries, electronics, lighting, and more.
