Two charged after $300K Wiarton drug bust

The Grey Bruce OPP says it has made one of the largest drug seizures in the region's history in a Wiarton bust that led to charges against two people.

The investigation was initiated by members of the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) in July. Police say after extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering, officers obtained a CDSA search warrant for a residence on Frank Street.

On Thursday, October 9, the warrant was executed with help from Huron-Perth CSCU, Wellington CSCU, Central Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, West Region Emergency Response Team, and Canine Services.

According to OPP, officers seized a "significant amount of controlled substances which included suspected fentanyl, suspected cocaine, and suspected methamphetamine, with a potential street value of over $300,000."

Police said there will be an investigation into the substances, and further updates will be shared. Officers also seized almost $1,700 in cash.

As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old woman from Toronto and a 58-year-old woman from Wiarton were arrested and charged with three counts each of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The 31-year-old also faces charges for possession of identity documents and failing to comply with a probation order. She remains in custody, while the 58-year-old was released with an undertaking.

"This investigation represents an outstanding effort by our Community Street Crime Unit and supporting teams," said Inspector Marla Barfoot of the Grey-Bruce OPP. "The suspected fentanyl seizure is one of the largest ever in Bruce and Grey Counties, and it represents a significant disruption to the illegal drug trade in our region. I'm proud of the teamwork, professionalism, and commitment shown throughout this operation."
