Second information session set for Southampton Drainage Project

Residents of Southampton are invited to attend the second public information session for the ongoing Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study focused on storm system outlets in the Southampton South area.

The session will take place on Thursday, October 16, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Southampton Town Hall, 201 High Street, with a formal presentation scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Town staff and consultants from Aquafor Beech Limited will provide an overview of Phase 2 of the project, which evaluates potential solutions for storm system outlets 11, 12, 13A, 13B, and 14. Proposed alternatives include swale improvements, infrastructure upgrades, end-of-pipe treatments, and storm sewer construction.

The session will also give residents and stakeholders an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback directly to the project team.

This project follows the Town’s Master Drainage Plan, completed in early 2024, which assessed current and future drainage needs in Southampton and identified areas facing challenges.

The Class EA study builds on these findings to determine the most effective solutions for the affected catchment areas, including Outlet 11 at Adelaide Street, Outlet 12 on Island Street, Outlet 13A for Bay Street, Outlet 13B on Watercourse south of Bay Street, and Outlet 14 on Huron Street South.

Residents can find more information about the project and upcoming sessions at www.engage.saugeenshores.ca/SouthAreaDrainage.
