Bluewater Education Foundation launches fall fundraisers to support outdoor learning

The Bluewater Education Foundation (BEF) is gearing up for a season of community celebration and fundraising in support of inclusive outdoor education.

Two major fall events – the annual OEC Open House and the IDEA Gala – will bring people together to enjoy nature, highlight accessibility, and raise vital funds for the Bluewater Outdoor Education Centre (OEC).

The OEC Open House returns on Sunday, October 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., marking its fifth year as a free, family-friendly event. Guests can enjoy food prepared by Chef Rob, sky-gazing with the Bluewater Astronomical Society at the Observatory, hay wagon rides to Boat Lake, and classic barn games. New this year is the OEC’s Low Ropes Course, designed to offer outdoor adventure in a safe and accessible way. Admission is free, though donations will be accepted in support of programming and facility improvements.

The second event, the IDEA Gala, takes place on Saturday, November 15, at the Bluewater Outdoor Education Centre. Themed “Accessibility in Nature,” the gala will showcase efforts to create outdoor spaces that are welcoming for everyone. Guests will hear from keynote speaker Julie Sawchuk, an international presenter and bestselling author known for her work on accessibility. The evening will also feature a guided property tour, a four-course plated dinner by Chef Rob, and the official launch of the OEC’s online auction.

Funds raised through the IDEA Gala will go toward accessibility initiatives, including infrastructure upgrades and inclusive programming such as the OEC’s 1-to-1 support camp. Tickets are available now through the Foundation’s website.

The Bluewater Education Foundation says proceeds from both fall events will help advance its mission to be a national model for environmental sustainability and education. By investing in inclusive outdoor programming, the Foundation hopes to ensure that more people can enjoy meaningful connections with nature.

The Bluewater OEC is located on Bruce Road 13 in South Bruce Peninsula.
