Grand opening coming for Grey County's new paramedic base

The new paramedic base in Durham has been completed and Grey County is inviting residents to come check out the new state-of-the-art facility.

The County will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on Saturday, September 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. Official remarks will begin shortly after 2 p.m., followed by facility tours and opportunities to meet paramedic staff.

"This new paramedic base represents Grey County’s unwavering commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our residents," said Grey County CAO Randy Scherzer. "Paramedics play a vital role in community healthcare, and this modern facility will enable them to provide even better emergency medical services to our communities."

The new $2.4 million facility, built by Domm Construction, sits beside the site of the new West Grey Police Services building off Chester Street and Grey Road 4. The county says the proximity "creates a centralized emergency services hub that will improve response times and coordination between services."

"With rising call volumes across our region, this new base positions us to maintain and improve our service levels," said Paramedic Chief Kevin McNab. "The modern design and strategic location will help our paramedics respond more efficiently to emergency calls throughout the coverage area."

The base design will be used again in future paramedic base builds, including Feversham later this year, Ayton area in 2026, Thornbury in 2027, and Cobble Beach in 2028.
