Hot weekend in store for much of the province

More hot and humid weather is expected for much of southwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada issued a heat warning Friday afternoon for the entire region, including Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, as well as Huron, Perth, Grey, Bruce, and Wellington counties.

The weather agency said a multi-day heat event will start on Saturday with daytime highs of 30 to 33 degrees Celsius likely, and humidex values reaching between 35 to 40 degrees Celsius.

Overnight lows will provide little relief from the heat hovering around 19 to 23 degrees.

Environment Canada said temperatures will cool down slightly by the middle of next week.

Residents are reminded to protect themselves from the heat by drinking water often, plan and schedule outdoor activities during the cooler part of the day and to wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing.

We're also reminded to watch for signs of heat exhaustion such as headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue.

If you or someone you know is experiencing heat stroke, call 911.
