The Canadian Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. trade remains optimistic a deal between the two countries can still be made.
Dominic LeBlanc made this comment on Face the Nation on Sunday.
"We left [last meeting] with a better understanding of the American concerns and the trading relationship. We're prepared to stick around and do the work needed," he said.
LeBlanc's comments came two days after the U.S. raised the tariff on Canadian goods from 25 per cent to 35 per cent.
He explained the increase was disappointing but it hasn't changed their goal.
"We're not yet where we need to go to get the deal that's in the best interest of the two economies," he added.
He also spoke about the importance of both sides continuing to work together. LeBlanc specifically mentioned the steel sector as the U.S. in previous years has been a major importer of Canadian steel.
