Aquatic centre in Saugeen Shores receives big donation from Heersink Family Foundation

The new Aquatic and Wellness Centre project in Saugeen Shores has received a $50,000 donation from the Heersink Family Foundation.

The Town of Saugeen Shores shared in a media release on July 16 that the Ewout and Lynn Heersink Family Foundation made the donation to the project that will see the new facility built in Port Elgin.

According to the media release, the Ewout and Lynn Heersink Family Foundation "is a private charitable organization dedicated to supporting community-focused initiatives, particularly those with personal or familial connections."

The Heersink family has connections to Saugeen Shores through their daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren, who call the community home.

"The Heersink family is thrilled to support the new community pool in Saugeen Shores, which will provide a bright, welcoming space for people of all ages to gather, exercise, and enjoy," said the family in a joint statement. "Whether it's children learning to swim, adults staying active, seniors finding wellness and connection, or the Breakers swim team practicing and competing, we believe this pool will serve as a valuable resource for the entire community for years to come."

Construction of the Aquatic and Wellness Centre is a Major Initiative for the Town’s Community Services department, as outlined in the Saugeen Shores 2025 Business Plan
