The national weather service has once again issued heat warnings across Ontario, with temperatures expected to feel like 40 degrees Celsius this weekend.
Environment Canada is forecasting daytime highs of 31 to 33 C and a humidex of 40 C on Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will only dip down to 21 to 25 C, providing little relief from the heat.
The warning spans from Windsor in the south to Owen Sound in the north and as far east as Peterborough.
It is expected to come to an end on Sunday night.
In order to protect yourself from the extreme heat, Environment Canada recommends that you:
- Drink water often and before you feel thirsty to replace fluids.
- Close blinds, or shades and open windows if outside is cooler than inside.
- Turn on air conditioning, use a fan, or move to a cooler area of your living space.
- Follow the advice of your region’s public health authority.
- Plan and schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day.
- Limit direct exposure to the sun and heat.
- Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat.
- Never leave people, especially children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Early signs of heat exhaustion include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue.
