Three teens have been arrested and a fourth is in police custody in an armed robbery that left Durham residents shaken.
The significant development in the investigation into last month's robbery at the Northern Credit Union on 118 Queen St. S was announced by West Grey police on Thursday night.
It was around 4:40 p.m. on June 10 when four masked individuals stormed into the financial institution, one armed with a machete and another with a handgun, and demanded money. The four then took off in a black SUV with an undisclosed amount of cash.
No one was physically hurt in the incident.
A 17-year-old boy from Brampton, a 17-year-old boy from Mississauga, and a 14-year-old boy from Mississauga have been arrested. A fourth suspect, described only as a "youth", has been identified and is currently in police custody. Charges have yet to be laid, but are forthcoming, police said.
“This was a terrifying event for our town. Holding these individuals accountable despite their young age is an important part of helping our community feel safe again," said Police Chief Jeremy White. "We are proud of the diligent work of our officers to identify and arrest the individuals responsible for this.”
White also offer thanks to members of the public who assisted in the investigation.
