Hanover police name suspect in fatal hit-and-run

The Hanover Police Service has identified and issued an arrest warrant for a suspect in last week’s fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a local woman.

Codie Bloom, 33, who has no fixed address, is wanted on multiple serious charges, including Dangerous Driving Causing Death, Failing to Remain at a Collision Resulting in Death, and Arson.

The charges stem from an incident on the evening of Wednesday, June 11, 2025. At around 5:20 p.m., 66-year-old Sheila Lamont of Hanover was crossing 7th Avenue near Hanover Park when she was struck by a red 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible. The vehicle had reportedly been seen driving erratically prior to the collision and fled the scene at high speed, heading north on Bruce Road 10 before turning west onto Concession 4 in the former Brant Township.

Lamont was taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries. In the days following the crash, police issued a public plea for the driver to come forward and asked residents to check security or dash cam footage from the area between 5:00 and 5:45 p.m.

The suspect vehicle was later discovered destroyed by fire. It has since undergone forensic examination by the Ontario Provincial Police. As a result of continued investigative efforts, Hanover police were able to identify Bloom as the alleged driver.

Chief of Police Christopher Knoll praised the media and public response, stating in a message to press outlets, "Your work enhances community safety and will help us bring answers to this grieving family."

Police say Bloom has known associates in Grey, Bruce, Huron, and Wellington counties and are warning anyone who aids him in evading arrest that they could face charges as accessories after the fact.

The investigation remains active, and police are urging anyone with information on Bloom’s whereabouts, or details about his movements before or after the crash, to contact Hanover Police at 519-364-2411 or Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
