A pedestrian has been killed in a late afternoon hit-and-run in Hanover.
According to Hanover police, a woman was crossing 7th Avenue near the entrance to Hanover Park when she was hit around 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday.
The vehicle, a 2007 red PT Cruiser convertible with Ontario Plates CKPR 013, is alleged to have taken off at a high speed and was last seen heading north on Bruce Road 10 before it turned west onto Concession 4 in the former Brant Township. Police noted it was being driven in an "erratic manner" in the lead up to the collision. It will have damage to its front-end and windshield.
The woman was taken to hospital where she died from her injuries, police said. She has been identified as 66-year-old Sheila Lamont of Hanover.
Investigators have determined prior to the crash the suspect vehicle travelled on Concession 2 SDR before going north past the Hanover and District Hospital onto 7th Avenue.
Police are appealing to the driver to surrender to investigators. As well, they are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dash camera or security surveillance footage from the area from between 5 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. to call them at 519-364-2411.
Anyone who helps the driver evade arrest in any way will face criminal prosecution, police warned.
