City of Owen Sound launching sewer inspection program Monday

The City of Owen Sound is set to begin a sanitary sewer inspection program next week as part of its ongoing commitment to maintaining and monitoring vital underground infrastructure.

The project will kick off on Monday, June 2 and is expected to run for approximately three weeks.

The inspection will focus on the area east of the Sydenham River near the downtown core, with specific locations highlighted on a map available through the City’s website.

To carry out the work, the city has once again partnered with Rapid Assessment Technology Services Inc. (RATS). The company will utilize rapid acoustic technology—a non-invasive inspection method that allows crews to quickly and efficiently assess the condition of sanitary sewer mains. This technology helps identify potential issues such as blockages, structural weaknesses, or other maintenance needs without disrupting sewer or water services to residents.

While no disruption to sewer or water services is expected during the inspection period, minor and localized traffic disruptions may occur where crews are working. These will be temporary and clearly marked to ensure public safety.

In all, Owen Sound manages 118 kilometres of wastewater pipes throughout the city, and the city’s treatment facilities process an average of 12 million litres of wastewater every day.
