A new home that was built for people supported by Community Living North Perth (CLNP) has been unveiled.
Community Living welcomed a number of dignitaries to the opening of the new home on May 30 in the east end of Listowel.
Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae was in attendance for the ribbon-cutting at the new house, which was made possible in part thanks to a $200,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation's Resilient Communities Fund.
The two-year grant was utilized by CLNP in a number of ways. A media release from the organization shares that funding was used to "increase its frontline staffing by more than 50 per cent, for key staffing costs, providing training opportunities and developing information materials. Funds also went towards assisting with some administrative costs involved, as well."
The new home currently supports two individuals and has capacity to welcome two more as the need for specialized housing continues to grow in the region.
CLNP now helps support 55 individuals with developmental disabilities in North Perth. According to numbers in the media release, CLNP's waitlist grows by 15 per cent every year, with over 60 people waiting to access services.
"Our team has worked hard to ensure the right staff, training, and resources are in place to support people with increasingly complex needs," said Jennifer Croft, Executive Director of CLNP. "The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s support helped us build the foundation needed to safely and compassionately open this new home."
"Congratulations to Community Living North Perth on the opening of their newest home in Listowel," said MPP Rae. "The Province of Ontario, through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, is proud to support the good work that CLNP does. Our government will continue to work to ensure everyone has a home that meets their needs and budget."
