United Way raises over $131,000 during Coldest Night of the Year events

United Way Bruce Grey (UWBG) has announced that over $131,000 was raised during this year's Coldest Night of the Year events.

UWBG announced this week that, despite record cold weather, the fundraisers in Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Meaford, and Grey Highlands were a big success.

The extreme winter weather did cancel the 5k walks but the 2k ones did proceed, with hundreds of walkers across the communities helping to raise a grand total of $131,405.

All the funding raised will go towards support local programs tackling homelessness, food insecurity, and poverty.

Funding will support United Way programs like the Utility Assistance Program, Financial Literacy Program, 211 Information and Referral Services, the Outreach Fund and the Backpack Program, as well as numerous localized programming in Grey and Bruce communities.

"This year’s Coldest Night of the Year showed us something powerful -compassion doesn't freeze. When the cold snowy forced us to pause the 5K walk, our communities still moved forward. These funds will help us support those who are unhoused, in crisis, and often forgotten. Thank you for walking with us, in every sense of the word," shared Kristy Andre, Fundraising Champion, United Way Bruce Grey.
