Wellington North gets over $251K for curling club improvements

A curling facility in Wellington North is getting a six-figure boost from the province.

Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced on Thursday the Arthur and Area Curling Club will receive $251,485 from the Ministry of Sport’s community sport and recreation infrastructure fund.

“The Arthur and Area Curling Club offers a place for the community to come together and curl,” Rae said in a statement. “The club allows curlers of all ages and skill levels to enjoy the game. This provincial government investment will help to ensure curling enthusiasts and residents in and around Wellington North may use the facility for years to come.”

The cash will be used to facilitate the club’s project to replace the concrete floor, piping system, and boards.

The mayor of Wellington North called the provincial funds "exciting news" for the community.

“Replacing the floor is essential to ensuring the club can continue to offer a safe and accessible space for recreation and social connection," said Mayor Andy Lennox. "The Township of Wellington North is grateful to both the Arthur and Area Curling Club and the Province of Ontario for their commitment to this important project. We look forward to seeing it move ahead.”

The Arthur Area Curling Club has been operating in Wellington North for 48 years. Its annual season runs from late October to the end of March.
