The Bluewater District School Board has refreshed its Multi-Year Strategic Plan, outlining the board’s direction when it comes to student achievement, well-being, and school system priorities.
Approved by trustees in December 2024, the updated plan follows a broad consultation process that began in May of that year. Trustees voted to initiate the review of the existing plan and launch a public survey, which ran from late May through the end of June. Feedback from that survey helped shape the changes that were adopted into board policy following a fall review.
The updated plan introduces a new vision (Always Learning, Learning All Ways), and mission (To provide a quality educational experience for every student in a safe and inclusive environment).
The new plan is structured around three core priorities.
The first, Safe Supportive Learning Community, focuses on promoting well-being, equity, and inclusiveness, valuing student voice, strengthening community and family engagement, and continuing progress on reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. The second, Quality Education, emphasizes relevant and engaging learning experiences, the use of evidence-informed teaching strategies in literacy and mathematics, and encouraging responsible digital citizenship. The third, Aligning Resources for Student Success, is aimed at making the most of the board’s human, financial, and technological resources, encouraging partnerships, and supporting environmental sustainability.
Board Chair Jane Thomson says the plan will serve as a compass for trustees and leadership in the years ahead. “We are excited to forge a new path with our updated Multi-Year Strategic Plan, which guides our work in supporting students on their learning journey as they navigate the roadmap to growth and success,” she said. “Thank you to the many members of the public who contributed their valuable feedback as we conducted our review. Your voices have helped shape a plan that reflects the educational priorities of our communities in the upcoming years.”
