Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for midwestern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for midwestern Ontario.

The weather agency announced Tuesday afternoon that watches are in effect in Perth County, and northern Wellington County.

A cold front moving through the area is expected to trigger severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon. Forecasters say those possibly dangerous storms could contain hail and very strong wind gusts.

Winds could gust up to 110 km/hr, and hail could be up to four centimetres in diameter. There is also the risk of a tornado from early Tuesday afternoon into the early evening.

An earlier watch issued for Bruce, Grey and Huron Counties has ended.

Environment Canada warns residents to be prepared for severe weather, and take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
