Huron OPP allege the driver of a tractor that ended up in the ditch had four times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.
Police say charges have been laid following a collision involving a farm tractor on April 12 in Howick Township.
Just after 5:30 p.m., police received a report of a collision on Forest Line, where a farm tractor hauling grain wagons had entered a ditch. Officers attended the scene and spoke with the driver. Police suspected the driver was impaired.
The driver was placed under arrest for alleged impaired driving and taken to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton. Breath samples were taken which allegedly found blood alcohol concentrations over four times the legal limit.
As a result, a 43-year-old Howick Township resident faces charges of:
Operation while Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs
Operation while Impaired - Over 80
Dangerous Operation
An additional offence was laid under the Liquor Licence Control Act.
The tractor was towed from the scene, and the driver’s license was suspended for 90 days. The accused was later released from custody with a scheduled court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on May 12, 2025.
Huron County OPP reminds motorists that impaired driving remains a serious risk on local roads and encourages the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
