Georgian Bluffs bridge closing this week for repairs

The Township of Georgian Bluffs is closing the Keppel Sarawak Townline Bridge this week for what it calls necessary structural repairs.

The bridge will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic effective March 31, until repairs are completed.

According to the Township, a structural load evaluation conducted by Pearson Engineering Ltd. identified significant deterioration of the bridge deck and guiderails. Council approved a short-term rehabilitation plan which includes deck and guiderail repairs, installation of trailside access gates, and improved signage.

The budgeted amount for the bridge repairs is $150,000, and any costs exceeding that will need council approval.

The minor rehabilitation approach is expected to extend the bridge’s service life by five to 10 years.
