The OPP across Midwestern Ontario will be running a traffic safety initiative during the upcoming long weekend.
The annual Easter Weekend Traffic Campaign is part of the OPP's Canada Road Safety Strategy 2025. The campaign will run from Friday, April 18 through Monday, April 21.
Patrolling officers will be focusing on seatbelts. The OPP will raise awareness through enforcement and public education by stopping vehicles that contain a driver and/or passengers not wearing their seatbelt. Seatbelt non-compliance for a driver can result in a fine of $240.00 and two demerit points.
Additionally, officers will look for other unsafe driving habits, including impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and aggressive driving.
"People not wearing seatbelts has been a contributing factor for serious personal injury and fatal collisions on our roadways. Do your part to stay safe by ensuring that everyone in the vehicle is wearing their seatbelt or is in a securely and properly installed car seat," shared Perth County Inspector Wendy Burrow.
