Local police detachments recently competed in a months-long blood drive for Canadian Blood Services.
The "Season of Giving" was spearheaded by the Perth County OPP Auxiliary Unit, and the competition involved three teams. Those were the Perth County and Huron County OPP and the Stratford Police Service.
The teams each pledged to donate blood from November 1, 2024 until January 31, 2025, with Canadian Blood Services donating a trophy to the winning team. The losing team had to nominate a member to get a pie in the face.
51 units of blood were donated in total. Each unit of blood has the potential of saving up to 3 lives. That's 153 lives potentially saved as a direct result of this competition.
10 units were donated from Stratford Police Service, 15 units from Huron County OPP and 26 units from Perth County OPP.
Stratford Police Acting Staff Sergeant Mike Weyers received a pie presented by Provincial Constable Val Feke who was Perth County OPP's largest donor.
There is always a need for regular blood donations to Canadian Blood Services. The OPP want to encourage everyone to find a donor centre near you by visiting blood.ca to get out and donate.
