OPP promote safe Super Bowl weekend

West Region Ontario Provincial Police are reminding people to be safe while celebrating the Super Bowl this weekend.

Police are providing tips to be safe while watching the big game.

OPP said Super Bowl Sunday can be one of the most dangerous days on roadways.

Police remind party goers to designate a sober driver, take a cab or plan to stay over if you're going to be drinking or consuming other intoxicating substances.

Party hosts are also reminded they're responsible for anyone consuming alcohol or drugs.

Police suggest hosts pour properly measured drinks, serve drinks rather than having a self-serve bar, don't serve alcohol to an already intoxicated person and avoid drinking games or competitions.

It's also recommended to offer non-alcoholic or low alcohol beverage options, provide food and snacks and take keys away from anyone who is thinking of driving impaired.

"We want everyone to enjoy the game whether it is socializing with family or friends, but we want everyone to act responsible," said Traffic Marine Manager Insp. Mike McConnell.

The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles go head-to-head on Sunday, February 9 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans at 6:30 p.m.
