Seaforth native Cameron Doig will be going back behind bars.
The former golf pro appealed a sexual assault conviction, but that appeal has been denied by the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Doig was convicted in 2022 for sexually assaulting a then 13-year-old girl that he was giving golf lessons to at the course he and his family own in Seaforth. Doig was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison.
The conviction was appealed and after serving part of that 3.5 year sentence, Doig was released as he continued the appeal process.
On Tuesday, December 17, the appeal of the conviction was officially denied by a judge at the Ontario Court of Appeal, meaning Doig will be heading back to prison to serve the rest of his sentence.
More charges have also been brought against Doig, including an allegation of a sexual assault that reportedly occurred in the early 1980's. The Huron OPP Major Crime Unit investigated that matter, and on June 30, 2023, the 64-year-old Doig was arrested and charged with indecent assault.
