Wellington North Mayor says 2024 was a year filled with growth

Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox says this year has been plenty busy for himself and council.

A number of projects were featured in 2024, with many focused on the continued growth in the area. Lennox says that ongoing community growth led to one major item being addressed and completed by council that it felt was necessary.

"We decided to put together a Community Growth Plan, which will help direct our activities in the future as we accommodate new members of our community. So I think that's probably the biggest item that's important right now from this year in terms of helping us better prepare for a future with more rapid growth in our community," Lennox explained.

Also, Lennox adds there were a number of major road and infrastructure projects that were taken care of.

"Resurfacing Smith Street in Arthur, along with the installation of a couple of pedestrian crosswalks, one in Arthur and one in Mount Forest. Things like Cork Street in Mount Forest, and sidewalks on Wellington and Douglas Streets in Mount Forest, as well," said Lennox.

Lennox adds he got to attend a number of great local events and festivities, including the annual newcomers welcome and volunteer appreciation event.

"It's really quite interesting to meet some new folks to our communities and talk to them and give them an opportunity to see what community groups are in our community, as well, to help them integrate themselves into Wellington North," Lennox enthused.

Looking forward to next year, a big focus will be wastewater treatment upgrades in Arthur to help facilitate more homes.

"We still need some support from the provincial and/or federal governments to make that a reality. We're also working towards trying to get some additional assistance with replacing the pool in Mount Forest. Those are two key projects we have for next year," Lennox pointed out.
