A bout of road rage involving a pickup truck driver and a pedestrian in Hanover has left one person hurt and another facing charges.
According to Hanover police, the incident began when the pedestrian made an "obscene gesture" to a passing driver on 12th Street near 10th Avenue on Tuesday. That led the driver to turn around, get out of his pickup truck, and push the pedestrian to the ground.
The driver then allegedly punched and kicked the pedestrian before getting back into his truck and leaving the area.
The pedestrian, an adult man, suffered minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.
A 53-year-old Central Huron man was arrested shortly after, thanks in part to eyewitnesses who were able to provide police with vital information. The man is charged with assault and causing a disturbance by fighting.
"Road rage is unacceptable and those that engage in such behaviour will find themselves in court," Police Chief Chris Knoll said in a social media post. He went on to warn that stranger-on-stranger attacks are becoming more common and have no place in the communities.
The investigation into Tuesday's road rage incident is ongoing as police continue to collect eyewitness statements and video footage.
