Hanover Salvation Army seeks volunteers

The Hanover Salvation Army is looking for volunteers for its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign.

Coordinator Nigel George said they will have donation stands at various busy locations, such as grocery stores.

"It's a huge part of our fundraising," George explained. "We collect a large part of our budget during this campaign. It's from November 16 to December 24 and we're always looking for volunteers who could just be at those stands."

George said they could use about 100 volunteers to help out in Hanover, Walkerton, and Chesley between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

"So they can commit as little as much as they want," he continued. "Each volunteer shift is only two hours. If they want to do multiple, they can do multiple. They want to do half the day, the whole day. In terms after that, they can choose one on a Tuesday, another shift on a Friday."

Businesses and organizations can also sponsor a kettle. High school students are also welcome to volunteer if they are 16 or older.

The total amount raised during last year's Christmas Kettle Campaign in 2023 was $65,858.75

The Hanover Salvation Army foodbanks in Hanover and Chesley supported 871 people in 2023, and distributed 1373 food hampers.

George said they saw 314 new clients last year, which was a 35 per cent jump year-over-year.
