New calendar to raise money for Lucknow animal shelter

A new holiday calendar is aimed at supporting a pet rescue in Lucknow, and showing off some of their adoptable animals.

Adopt a pet Founder Cathy Newell Nicholson said they currently have 98 cats and kittens, along with 19 dogs, in their care.

"We don't have any funding of any sort," she added. "So we recover that money for vet bills through adoption fees, and then fundraisers, such as our photo fundraisers, or our calendars, are new this year. So we've printed 300 calendars, and we're hoping that we can sell them all, because that would help a lot with the vet bills that are upcoming."

Nicholson pointed out the new calendar is now ready, and features some great photos of cute pets in iconic locations.

"We have a lot of our adoptable dogs and one of the adoptable cats in the calendar," she continued. "We made sure we use local historic sites like the Goderich Jail, The Menesetung Bridge, Balls Bridge, Four Winds in Brussels, all the nice looking local places that are recognized as landmarks."

Newell Nicholson explained that many people got pets during COVID and failed to get them fixed, and now these pets are being dumped or surrendered.

"The problem came up with the vets having so many animals that came in, they couldn't even accommodate the need for vetting. So a lot of people's animals have had puppies or kittens, and now these animals are reproducing as well. So we're seeing friendly cats dumped in the streets," she explained. "And most of it is because the owners haven't wanted to keep them, or they got them as puppies and then found that they had health issues, like the owner did, and so then a lot of these animals have been turned into no fault of their own."
