Police find DNA sample for second boater missing for nearly 60 years

Huron County OPP say they've located a relative of the second boater that went missing from the Port of Goderich nearly 60 years ago.

At the start of the month, police issued a request for familial DNA of both Neil Wormsbecker and Hank Englebertus Halff, who were never seen again after leaving on a fishing trip on October 22, 1967.

The hope was to compare the DNA against all samples of found human remains in the police database.

On October 15, OPP located a biological family member of Mr. Halff.

Then on Friday, police said a family member of Mr. Wormsbecker provided DNA samples which will be analyzed and compared.

Police sent their thanks to all who shared their plea. They say the Ontario Center for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains, along with the National Missing Persons DNA Program continue to work toward solving historical cases.
