Humane Society celebrates record fundraiser

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth's Taylor Swift 50/50 draw is fetching a lot of attention.

As of Wednesday, the jackpot had reached a record of over $126,000.

Half of the proceeds, and a pair of tickets to see Taylor Swift in Toronto November 15, will go to one lucky winner, while the other half supports vital programs at the Humane Society.

"The enthusiasm surrounding this draw has been extraordinary," said Victoria Baby, CEO of the Humane Society. "Every ticket sold not only gives participants a shot at a huge prize but also helps fund essential services like our pet adoption programs, veterinary clinic, and community outreach initiatives, which support animals in need across the region."

Director of Marketing and community Engagement Adam Stephens pointed out the Humane Society will welcome its share of the growing jackpot.

"That ends up going towards our community efforts, even if we were just going to spend that money on spays an neuters alone, that would translate into roughly 1,800 neuters and spays that we wouldn't have to worry about funding for next year," Stephen's revealed.

The raffle ends just before midnight October 31, and the draw will be held November 1. One ticket costs $22, but people can save money by purchasing bundles of tickets.

"Taylor Swift has various different numbers that have important meaning for her," explained Stephens. "And so we have single tickets, 13 tickets, 89 tickets, 250 tickets. And then the most popular option is 999 tickets for $250, which roughly translates into about $4 a ticket."

The society works to help pets and families in 14 regions between Kitchener/Waterloo and Stratford/Perth. The money raised from this draw will go directly towards expanding these efforts, which includes the Better Together Capital Campaign. The Better Together campaign focuses on the construction of a new Community Engagement Center, needed renovations to our medical facilities, and expanding outreach to rural areas through our Community Outreach Vehicle.

Stephens said the popular draw follows the successful Mars Pet Adoption Weekend. PEDIGREE Foundation committed $25,000 to cover dog adoption fees at three partnering shelters across Canada.

"We were able to actually secure the adoptions of 37 animals over the course of the weekend, which is great," he exclaimed. "If you take a look at our website, it's looking slim right now for everybody who's, you know, adoptable, but it does mean that we were able to free up some much needed space."
