Walks for Parkinson's Disease raise over $500K

Fundraising walks held across southwestern Ontario raised more than $500,000 in support of research into Parkinson's Disease.

Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario (PSSO) released the final tally from the walks in 14 locations this week. The walks were held on September 8 and 9, and raised a total of $506,977.

"This remarkable achievement reflects the unwavering dedication of our sponsors, nearly 200 volunteers, and over 1,800 participants, all committed to creating a bright future for the Parkinson's community in Southwestern Ontario," a statement from the organization said. "Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario is deeply moved by the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone involved."

According to PSSO, all of the money raised "stays local" and helps fund essential programs and services, as well as research, education, and advocacy.

Grand Bend ($9,512.81)

Owen Sound ($18,602.72)

Port Elgin, Kincardine and area ($14,625.12)

Sarnia-Lambton ($46,891.82)

South Grey Bruce and Hanover ($48,958.89)

Stratford and area ($74,126.84)

Windsor-Essex ($48,014.78)
