Inter Township Firefighters honoured

The Inter Township Fire Department (ITFD) celebrated a combined 90 years of service to the Georgian Bluffs and Meaford communities.

Six firefighters were honoured during the 2024 Years of Service Awards on Saturday, September 14.

Fire Chief Jeff Gautreau said the department highlights the remarkable efforts of its firefighters annually for consistently demonstrating exceptional dedication to the safety and well-being of the communities they serve.

The 2024 Years of Service Award recipients include:

35 Years of Service: Glen McKee

Five Years of Service: Travis Belrose, Jenna Bergeron, Nate Downing, Richard Stackhouse, and Jeff Thomson

Gautreau was also recognized for his total 30 years of service as a firefighter, twelve of which have been spent with the ITFD,

Gatreau received the First Bar of the Governor General’s Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal – a testament to his leadership and contributions over three decades.

"I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to each of you," said Georgian Bluffs Deputy Mayor Grant Pringle. "We deeply appreciate the risks you take and the sacrifices you make to protect life and property. I also want to thank your families, who stand by your side, even when you’re called away at a moment’s notice. Your support makes this vital service possible."
