Huron-Kinloss launches volunteer webpage

Residents inthe Township of Huron-Kinloss can now see all of the local volunteer opportunities in one place.

The Township of Huron-Kinloss website now features a volunteer page.

Communications Coordinator Kristen Prentice said they wanted to support all of the various not profit organizations that rely on volunteers.

"To give them a little push," she added. "We put them out there on our website and on our corporate Facebook page, kind of centralizing all of the opportunities so that people can go to one for that and find out how to help."

Prentice stressed that Huron-Kinloss strives to be an unified, caring, and engaged community. She pointed out that volunteering creates strong communities and gives many people a sense of satisfaction.

"It's that small town feeling. And people are volunteering because they're helping out their neighbors, and they're filling in the needs that they see in the community, and they want to help strengthen the community and grow and have these cool and fun events," Prentice continued. "There's all kinds of reasons that people are doing it, and I'm sure that there's others that really want to help, and they just don't know how."

She said many community members want to help, and the new webpage makes it easy for people to get started.

"Anything you're looking for, you'll be able to help out if you want to," Prentice added. "Help run an event, or help with kids, or help with sports or what have you. There's something for everyone."

Prentice explained that a wide range of organizations rely on volunteers.

"The Lucknow Fall Fair and then the Ripley Fall Fair, those are like keystone events for our communities and they're all entirely run by volunteers. And the Bruce Botanical Food Gardens, again, a huge resource for food insecure people in our township and, again, completely run by volunteers," Prentice continued. "The Lions Club and the Cottagers Associations and the Beach Associations, Minor Sports, Parents' Associations, as well as the Legions, there are tons of events, as well as the Kinsmen and the Kinnettes, and so on."

Eligible Community Organizations can submit volunteer opportunities to be posted on this web page. To be eligible, the organization must be listed in the Community Organization Registry and the volunteer opportunity must take place in Huron-Kinloss or benefit Huron-Kinloss residents.
