Perth County OPP nabbed four suspected impaired drivers over three days.
On August 30, 2024, at approximately 9:10 p.m. an officer pulled over a vehicle on Wellington Street in Mitchell. The driver was displaying signs of impairment and was taken into custody. As a result, a 47-year-old of Mitchell has been charged with Operation while Impaired by Alcohol or Drugs, and Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand.
Meantime, an OPP RIDE check held on August 30 just after 9 p.m. on Perth Line 55 near Perth Road 131 in the Township of Perth East also resulted in charges. A breathalyzer led to the arrest of a driver who was then transported to the detachment, where further tests were administered. As a result, a 62-year-old of Wellesley has been charged with Operation while Impaired.
The following day, on August 31 at about 11:26 p.m. officers investigated a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 7 near Line 26 in the Township of Perth South. Police located a pickup truck in the ditch on Highway 7. During the investigation, a breathalyzer led to the arrest of a motorist who was transported to the detachment for further tests. A 36-year-old of Stratford has been charged with Operation while Impaired and with Novice driver with a blood alcohol content above zero.
Finally, a driving complaint from the public lead to an impaired charge on September 1, 2024, at approximately 11:19 p.m. Police located the vehicle and driver on Perth Line 24 near Perth Road 180 in the Municipality of West Perth. A 55-year-old of Bluewater has been charged with Operation while Impaired.
In all four cases, the accused was released from custody and had a court appearance scheduled to speak to the charges.
A four suspects also faced a 90-day Administrative Driver's License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.
