The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is asking for the public's opinion on the latest five year plan for the long-term management of used nuclear fuel inside a deep geological repository.
Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources also tasked the NWMO with a new mandate to plan for a deep geological repository for the safe, long-term management of intermediate-level and non-fuel high-level waste.
Back in March 2024, the NWMO published their latest five-year strategic plan, Implementing Adaptive Phased Management 2024-28. It outlines our plans for 2024 to 2028 and explains how Canada’s plan will be implemented during that time period.
The NWMO believes feedback from Canadians is essential to their work. People are invited to share thoughts through an online survey by June 7, 2024.
The strategic plan is a living document that is regularly assessed and strengthened to reflect direction and guidance from communities, advances in science and technology, insights from Indigenous Knowledge, changes in societal values and evolving public policy.
